Request a Tax Refund After Purchase
Purchasers with tax-exempt status can request a refund of sales tax that was charged on a completed order. Submit your exemption documentation with your order details using the steps below.
- Place your order on ScalesPlus.com or with our team.
- Gather acceptable documentation: a state resale certificate, an exemption certificate, or other proof of exempt status for the ship-to state.
- Email your documents to tax@scalesplus.com with the subject line “Tax Exemption Request.”
- Include the following in your message:
- Your Scales Plus order number
- Your email address
- The name of the organization that purchased the items
- Your exemption certificate as an attachment
After your documents are processed and accepted, we will issue a refund for the sales tax charged on the order.

Prefer to upload once and have tax removed automatically on future orders, as long as you are signed in to the same account? Use the self-service option below.
- Log in or create a Scales Plus account.
- Add your shipping address in the “Addresses” tab. A ship-to address is required before you can add a certificate.
- Go to Tax Exemption in your account menu.
- Fill out the form and upload your exemption or resale certificate.
- Shop while signed in. Eligible orders will not include tax at checkout.
What qualifies as documentation
Acceptable documents typically include a state resale certificate, an exemption certificate, or other proof of exempt status that is valid in the destination state for your shipment.
